“SHARING THE EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME IN YOUR OWN COMMUNITY”
What is RSVP? The
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), is federally funded by the
Corporation for National Service who came into being with the signing of the
National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993. Dawson County is our local sponsor and also contributes to
the funding. Our
Mission: The
purpose of the Dawson/Wibaux Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is to provide
a variety of opportunities for people 55 or older to participate more fully in
the life of their community through significant volunteer service. Our
Goals:
To provide meaningful, productive activity for people 55 and older who
wish to promote the spirit of volunteerism
To recruit and place volunteers for service in non-profit organizations
throughout Dawson and Wibaux counties
To provide resource information and assistance
To seek out new volunteer opportunities in the areas of education, health
and human needs, environment, community and economic development and public
safety that attract seniors with varied and changing interests What
Do RSVP Volunteers Do?
As a volunteer, you choose what you want
to do and when you would like to do it. Volunteer
Opportunities: Volunteer opportunities are as diverse as our volunteers themselves are. Some volunteers choose opportunities with regular hours. Others prefer project or task oriented volunteer opportunities. Opportunities include: tutoring and helping a child to read; speaking about life experiences to school children in classes; clerical and reception duties; assisting in libraries, museums and art gallery, providing tax preparation assistance to low income seniors, helping with community blood drives, operating food banks, assisting in hospital and nursing homes. All volunteers are covered by accident and liability insurance while participating in volunteer activities.
