Goals
of the Tobacco Use Prevention Program
The following
are the primary goals of TUPP:
Goal 1: To reduce initiation of tobacco use by youth.
Goal 2: To reduce exposure to Environmental Tobacco Smoke
(secondhand
smoke)
How does the
Tobacco Use Prevention Program determine the goals of Dawson County?
Every year the Dawson County Tobacco Use
Prevention Program writes a work plan program for the contract year (July-June).
The work plan defines the goals, objectives, target group, time line and
evaluation indicators for each goal. This
work plan is developed from input by the community members that make up the
Dawson County Tobacco Free Coalition and the Dawson County Health Department
staff. These people determine the
focus of the work plan based on the needs of tobacco prevention in Dawson
County.
How will these
goals be implemented into Dawson County?
The following are some of the objectives that
will be implemented during the 2002-2003 year:
1.
Reduce
initiation of tobacco use among youth

Provide tobacco use prevention education in grades K-12

Promote tobacco non-use among youth
-
Require all tobacco products to be behind the counter
(increase base of 50% to 60%)

Collaborate with law enforcement, judges, and schools to
support cessation efforts

Promote awareness of the need for tobacco use prevention
in youth

Eliminate non-smokers exposure to environmental
smoke

Increase public support for tobacco free policies

Establish smoke free policies in public places
-
Smoke free policies in public buildings and private work
sites

Smoke free policies in restaurants, bars, bowling alley
& theater
-
Promote community awareness of the need for tobacco
prevention and ETS policy

Promote smoke free policies
