Birth & Death Records

We have birth and death records dating back to 1885. It became law to file these records with us July 1, 1907.

Birth Certificates-Dawson County is online with the office of vital statistics in Helena.  Therefore, this office can access birth certificates for all Montana Counties, currently on record.

Who Can Get a Birth Certificate?

According to Montana Code Annotated, vital records may be issued to the registrant, the registrant's spouse, children, parents or guardians, or an authorized representative.

• Application for Certified Copy of Birth Certificate - (PDF file, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print this file-- download here.  (Please fill out this application for birth certificate, which has to be signed in the presence of a Notary Public or you may include a copy of a photo identification with your name clearly displayed.)
• Application for Certified Copy of Death Certificate -(The above form must be signed in the presence of a Notary Public or you may include a copy of a photo identification with your name clearly displayed.)
